A very enjoyable, and very odd film: such a sinister hero, portrayed in a slightly implausible light, is unimaginable for a commercial movie in our time.
So watching this interesting classic of nostalgia makes me all nostalgic, for an era that is "simpler" in a preserve-the-pastorale sense, yet far more complex in its huamnist respect for the seemingly unseemly alongside the sublime and divine, for the catapillar as well as the butterfly.
